“The Big Trend by Ofelia de Souza”, produced by the Porto and Northern Portugal Tourism Board, has won three new Gold awards and now tops the global ranking of the best tourism promotional films in the “Tourist Destinations” category of the International Committee of Tourism Film Festivals (CIFFT) Circuit.
“The Big Trend by Ofelia de Souza” marks the return of the character Ofelia, now joined by her assistant Ofelier, on a journey through several destinations across Porto and Northern Portugal, while retaining the humorous and irreverent tone of the previous productions.
The latest distinctions were awarded at the New York Festivals TV & Film Awards and the US International Awards, both in the United States, and at the International Tourism Film Festival Africa 2026 in South Africa. In March, the film had already received a Gold Medal at the Japan World’s Tourism Film Festival 2026.
According to the Porto and Northern Portugal Tourism Board, topping the CIFFT ranking puts the film in the running for the title of “World’s Best Tourism Film” of the year — an accolade the organisation previously won in 2021 with “The Majestic Adventures of Ofelia de Souza”, the production that first introduced the character and established the campaign’s universe.
In a statement, Luís Pedro Martins, President of the Porto and Northern Portugal Tourism Board, said that the distinctions, awarded at festivals in the United States, Japan and South Africa, “confirm and further strengthen the diversification and qualification strategy we have been pursuing.”
It is also worth noting that the film features several members of the Porto and Northern Portugal Tourism Board team as extras.
